An Account of Greenland was first written c.1645 while La Peyrere was secretary in the French embassy at Copenhagen. Originally in French, the work was requested by M. de la Mothe de Vayer, a member of the French Academy and tutor of King Louis XIV. The first English translation was published in "Churchill's Voyages" in 1704 (second edition 1732). The text includes geographical description as well as the manners of Greenland's people. Show more
