~ Standard Hardcover A story of corrupt liaisons between criminal elements in the new Russian states and the world of legitimate finance in the West, Single & Single is also an int imate portrait of two families: one Russian, one English; one trading illicit goods, the other laundering the profits, one betrayed by a son-in-law, the other betrayed, and redeemed, by a son. Exploring territory le Carre knew better than anyone, Single & Single is a masterful and prophetic work of espionage fiction, and Oliver Single, the central protagonist, is one of le Carre's most fascinating characters. "Ex-spy le Carré was there when the Berlin Wall went up, and his spy craft is legendarily realistic, and the book's crucial father-son relationship is quite real, having been based on le Carre's own con-man dad." -- Amazon Show more
