As he comes closer to the wolf world, he comes to fear the onslaught of bounty hunters and government exterminators out to erase the noble wolf community from the Arctic." -Reviewed by CBC Books This is Mowat's account of the summer he lived in the frozen tundra alone—studying the wolf population and developing a deep affection for the wolves (who were of no threat to caribou or man)—is today celebrated as a classic of nature writing, at once a tale of remarkable adventures and indelible record of myths and magic of wolves. DID YOU KNOW? Farley Mowat, the renowned Canadian author and environmentalist, was denied entry to the U.S. in 1985 under President Reagan's administration, thus becoming a prominent figure banned under laws targeting potential "subversives" or "communists," although it was actually due to his outspoken environmental views that went against the Americans view of the world which is pillage and burn.
