Details While a stool test is the best way to test the microbiome, there are 3 ways to test at home. Your need for toilet paper, the presence of gas and stool pH. If any of these values are out of balance, your microbiome may need help. No healthy animal soils itself. When your microbiome is healthy, you won’t need toilet paper. The more toilet paper you need, the more support your microbiome may need. For your good bacteria to kill or suppress bad bacteria, stool ph must be 6.5 or below (5.7 is optimal). Use ph paper to test your stool ph. Press the paper to a damp part of the stool. If the stool is dry, split the stool and sample from the center. If feces sticks to the paper, brush it off with paper towel. Paper must show dampness to read. Choose the darkest color that appears and check against color code. Dark blue is 8 or more. Support urinary tract health and fortifies immune system resilience. Stool Test and Colon Protocol The goal is to shift the microbiome from protein to carbohydrate fermentation. There are 4 Tests: 1. No Toilet Paper Needed Prebiotic fermentation requires no toilet paper. Protein fermentation creates mucus and biofilms that create sticky stool that requires toilet paper. The more wipes you need, the sicker the microbiome. 2. No Foul Smells Prebiotic fermentation creates a mild sour smell. Protein fermentation creates foul odors. 3. Stools Sink Healthy stool sinks. Floating stool is caused by methane production due to slow transit time. 4. Acidic stool Healthy stool has a core pH of ~5.7 and a surface pH of 6.7. Protocol for ANY Failed Test Supplements to Use: Acetamet or Klistamet. Diet:Chilled potatoes/sweet potatoes/basmati rice and low but adequate protein levels see our book). Surface stool pH that turns our pH paper blue:Alkaline stool (pH >7.0) suggests a more entrenched dysbiosis. This will require a core stool pH for better accuracy. In addition to the protocols above: Core stool pH >7.0 consider Phylamet.Core stool pH >7.4 consider also Pokegeshi. If stool continues to float while other tests pass, consider Bacillimet. How to test stool pH Test stool pHUse 6.0-8.0 pH paper strips. Patient may prefer to wear gloves. Surface pH ReadingWithin 10 seconds, press our pH paper against some stool residue on the toilet paper. Let it remain in contact for 5 seconds, then wipe off and read the color from the middle of the color change. Edge readings are inaccurate. Core pH ReadingDefecate into a disposable container (large paper bowl). Break the stool and test the inside of the stool as per above. Core: Center of the stool Core greater than or equal to 8.0 = Pathologic dysbiosis Core 7.6 = Severe dysbiosis Core 7.2 = Moderate dysbiosis Core 7.0 = Mild dysbiosis Core 6.8 = Microbiome fragile Core 6.4 = Microbiome acceptable Core greater than or equal to 6.0 = Microbiome excellent Surface: Toilet paper smear, about 1 pH unit more alkaline Surface greater than or equal to 8.0Reading off scale. Refer to core stool pH. Surface 7.8 = Microbiome fragile Surface 7.4 = Microbiome acceptable Surface less than or equal to 7.0* = Microbiome excellent *Check for carbohydrate malabsorption. Acid in the colon can come from healthy CFA production or from fermentation of carbohydrate that was never absorbed pstream. Rule out carbohydrate malabsorption, short bowel syndrome, celiac disease, fructose intolerance, or lactose intolerance before treating a low reading as a success.
