Adapt-a-Rack® POM Linkable Multi-Tube Rack, 7–50mL The Adapt-a-Rack® from Heathrow Scientific takes a fundamentally different approach to tube organization: instead of fixed-diameter wells, each of the four positions features flexible POM fingers that actively grip the tube, adapting to the tube's specific outer diameter anywhere in the 12-30mm (7-50mL) range. No inserts, no size-specific racks, and no reconfiguration needed — simply place any tube in any well and the fingers close around it. Racks can be linked end-to-end for unlimited expansion. Available in eight single and dual-color options, the Adapt-a-Rack® is the most versatile tube storage solution for mixed-diameter workflows. Sold in packs of 2. No springs, no adjustments, no inserts required. 12-30mm diameter range (7-50mL tubes): A single rack accommodates essentially the full range of tubes in active use in standard laboratory workflows — microcentrifuge tubes in appropriately sized holders, through 15mL and 50mL conicals, to 30mm specialty vessels. Linkable end-to-end expansion: Interlocking connectors on each rack allow multiple units to be joined into a longer rack array. Two, four, six, or more racks can be linked to create a continuous organized tube staging area scaled to batch size without a large-format fixed rack purchase. POM construction: Polyoxymethylene provides the chemical resistance and spring-back durability that the flex-finger design demands — POM retains its elastic return properties through repeated compression cycles, autoclaving, and exposure to laboratory chemicals without permanent deformation. Open sides for label visibility: The rack's lateral profile is open rather than walled, keeping tube labels and barcodes visible from the side without removing tubes from the rack — essential for barcode scanning in LIS-integrated workflows. Flat base stability: Holds tubes upright on flat bench surfaces during pipetting, dispensing, and mixing operations. Eight color options: Blue, White, Pink, Yellow, Green, and three combination packs (Blue/Green, Blue/Yellow, Pink/White) for color-coded project organization. Autoclavable: POM withstands standard autoclave sterilization for complete rack decontamination. Applications Adapt-a-Rack® is the standard choice in molecular biology and biochemistry labs running multi-step protocols that shift tube types between workflow stages. A PCR prep workflow might begin with 1.5mL microcentrifuge tubes for reagent master mix preparation, transition to 0.2mL PCR strip tubes during thermocycling setup, and end with 1.5mL tubes for product verification — all different diameters, all accommodated without rack changes using Adapt-a-Rack® flex-finger wells. Protein biochemistry labs managing gradient fractions in 15mL conicals alongside enzyme assay tubes in 5mL round-bottoms use linked Adapt-a-Rack® units to keep all fraction tubes in a single organized array with visible labels. Cell biology labs preparing samples in 50mL conicals before aliquoting into 1.5mL tubes use the rack for both the large conicals and the finished aliquot tubes in sequence. Point-of-care testing areas stocking a wide range of specimen tube types use Adapt-a-Rack® as a universal tube holder that simplifies consumable inventory — one rack type that works for all tube diameters on hand. The flex fingers are molded from POM, which is specifically selected for its fatigue resistance — POM maintains its elastic return properties through tens of thousands of flex cycles without permanent set or loss of grip force. In standard laboratory use with routine autoclaving, the flex fingers retain effective tube grip for the expected product lifecycle. If a finger is damaged by forcing an oversized tube (over 30mm OD) into a well, that well's grip may be reduced, but this requires exceeding the specified diameter range. How many racks can be linked together? Adapt-a-Rack® units are designed to link end-to-end without a published maximum chain length. In practice, linked arrays of 8-10 racks (32-40 positions) are stable on flat bench surfaces. For very long arrays, ensure the bench surface is level and the racks are on a non-slip surface to prevent the chain from flexing and tipping. For arrays requiring more than about 10 linked units, consider supplementing with Mega Racks® or OneRack® formats that provide larger fixed capacity in a rigid single structure. Can Adapt-a-Rack® hold tubes at an angle or does it only work upright? Adapt-a-Rack® is designed for upright tube orientation. The flex fingers grip tubes in the vertical position, and the flat base keeps the rack level on bench surfaces. It is not designed to hold tubes at an angle or in a horizontal position. For tubes that require angled incubation (e.g., for cell growth surface maximization), purpose-built angled tube racks are the appropriate choice. For standard vertical staging, pipetting, and bench organization, the Adapt-a-Rack® provides reliable upright retention across all compatible tube diameters.
