The Alliance for Technology Refurbishing and Reuse (AFTRR) connects nonprofit refurbishers across the U.S. who repair donated computers and provide low-cost or free devices to families, schools, and community programs. Its members help reduce e-waste while closing the digital divide, making sure more students have access to reliable hardware for learning. Educators and families appreciate that AFTRR can point them to local partners and programs rather than navigating the landscape alone. It’s especially valuable for low-income households, small schools, and nonprofits needing multiple devices on tight budgets. Availability and wait times vary by region, so checking early is key. When possible, combine refurbished devices with digital literacy support so families can make full use of their tech.
