ASA Fixed Plotter CP-1 puts a straightedge, a course protractor and six chart scales into one clear tool, so you can measure every leg of a VFR cross-country and read its true course in seconds. An essential tool for every pilot. Built from sturdy clear plastic with easy-to-read numbers and scales, the CP-1 has been checked and approved by the Weights and Measures Department.Six Scales for Every VFR ChartWondering what plotter you need for VFR cross-country planning? Start with one that matches your charts. The CP-1 carries sectional (1:500,000), WAC (1:1,000,000) and terminal area (1:250,000) scales, with nautical miles on one side and statute miles on the other. Lay the edge between two checkpoints, use the scale that matches your chart and read the distance directly, with no conversion from the chart legend. A conversion scale turns nautical miles into statute miles at a glance, and the hole at the center of the protractor sits over a VOR symbol so you can measure distances outward from the station.True Course in Three Simple StepsDraw your course line, align the top edge of the plotter with it, then slide the plotter along the line until the center hole falls over a line of longitude or latitude. Read the true course at the top of the protractor. Apply the magnetic variation printed on your chart to get magnetic course: east is least, west is best. It is the same dead reckoning skill you will use from your first cross-country to your checkride, with no batteries to charge and nothing to update.Measure, plot and plan every leg with a simple, dependable tool that never needs a charge.
