Cinnamon - Ceylon (Cinnamomum verum) is a potent Ayurvedic spice that naturally supports blood sugar levels.* DESCRIPTION Cinnamon, known as 'Tvak,' has a pungent and sweet flavor and is considered hot in nature. It is an incredible spice used not only in world cuisines but also, because of its remarkable medicinal properties, in Ayurveda, Chinese, and Unani systems. Every part of the cinnamon tree is used as a spice in Indian cuisine. Growing up in India, I remember walking through the forest and admiring the majestic cinnamon tree, trying to reach the low-hanging leaves and collecting them in large jute bags, with the fruit and bark emitting their divine fragrance. To fully enjoy the benefits of Ayurvedic spices, it is essential to use high-quality spices free from fillers, colors, or additives, and to select cooking methods such as dry roasting, sautéing, and simmering, which preserve their nutrients and enhance their flavor. Ayurvedic Golden Ghee is the ideal choice for these techniques, as it is a superb fat that does not burn quickly and provides more healing nutrients to the digestive system. BENEFITS Cinnamon, a warming spice with sweet, pungent, and bitter flavors, stimulates digestion. Due to its warming properties, it soothes Kapha and helps to balance Vata as well. Pitta types can also consume cinnamon, but in relatively smaller amounts. Studies suggest that cinnamon may assist in balancing blood sugar by enhancing glucose uptake, improving insulin sensitivity in fat and muscle tissues, boosting glycogen synthesis in the liver, slowing gastric emptying, and potentially causing other beneficial changes. ENERGIES / DOSHAS Rasa (taste) is pungent, sweet, and astringent. Virya (Energy) Hot. Vipak (Post - digestive Effect) is sweet. Guna (Quality) Dry, light, penetrating.
