Geranyl formate opens with an immediate impression of rose petals steeped in fresh tea—not the heavy, jammy rose of damascones but rather the crisp, almost transparent quality of w ild roses after rain. This fresh rose character is interwoven with distinct neroli facets, creating an effect reminiscent of orange blossoms floating in rose water. The material's signature tea note isn't black tea's tannins but rather the fresh, green quality of white tea leaves. Dry, slightly choking green notes prevent any sweetness from developing, while subtle citrus-pear nuances add sparkling lift. The overall effect is remarkably diffusive—it seems to expand and fill space with its fresh complexity. Utilise Geranyl formate at 1-20% when you need fresh, diffusive rose effects without heaviness or sweetness. Its moderate tenacity and middle note classification make it ideal for creating sophisticated fresh florals that maintain presence without becoming cloying. In rose compositions, it provides the elusive "fresh rose" quality that's difficult to achieve with traditional rose materials alone. For neroli reconstructions, it bridges the gap between citrus top notes and indolic heart notes beautifully. The material excels in cologne-type fragrances where its diffusive freshness and tea-like dryness create modern sophistication. In muguet and other white florals, it adds green freshness without the harshness of typical green materials. The structural difference between Geranyl formate and Geranyl acetate creates dramatically different olfactory effects despite their shared geraniol base. Geranyl acetate delivers sweet, fruity-rose with lavender-like softness and metallic undertones; Geranyl formate provides dry, fresh rose with neroli-tea character and superior diffusion. The formate's smaller ester group creates a lighter, more volatile material with enhanced lift and transparency. Where Geranyl acetate tends toward sweetness and fruit, Geranyl formate remains resolutely fresh and dry. The formate's unique tea-neroli facet, absent in the acetate, enables sophisticated effects impossible with other rose materials. Choose Geranyl acetate for sweet, fruity-rose effects in classic florals; select Geranyl formate when you need fresh, diffusive rose with modern tea-neroli character and no sweetness. Show more
