Nirvana is the self-titled 2002 compilation that traces the Seattle band's remarkable journey from underground favourites to one of the most influential groups in alternative rock. Rather than focusing on a single era, its fourteen songs span early recordings, the worldwide breakthrough of Nevermind, the more abrasive In Utero period and the band's celebrated acoustic performances. The album begins with You Know You're Right, recorded in 1994 and first officially released on this collection. As the final studio recording made together by Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, it carries particular emotional weight. About a Girl, Been a Son and Sliver then reveal the band's knack for melody and memorable hooks long before international fame arrived. The central stretch includes Smells Like Teen Spirit, the explosive single that brought grunge into the mainstream, alongside Come as You Are, Lithium and In Bloom. These songs show how Nirvana could move between quiet restraint and ferocious volume without losing their melodic core. Heart-Shaped Box, Rape Me and Dumb reflect the darker, more unsettled atmosphere of In Utero. The closing tracks shift to the intimate sound of MTV Unplugged in New York. All Apologies and the band's haunting reading of David Bowie's The Man Who Sold the World highlight Cobain's distinctive voice and the strength of the material without distortion. Their presence makes the collection more than a simple sequence of hit singles. This single vinyl LP presents fourteen career-spanning tracks, including You Know You're Right, which was unreleased when the band was active.
