الصَّابِرِينَ وَالصَّادِقِينَ وَالْقَانِتِينَ وَالْمُنفِقِينَ وَالْمُسْتَغْفِرِينَ بِالْأَسْحَارِ "The patient, the truthful, the obedient, those who spend in the way of Allah, and those who seek forgiveness before dawn."Surah Āl ʿImrān, 3:17 This ayah describes the qualities of the believers, promised gardens beneath which rivers flow. It doesn't name them by wealth, lineage or status. It names them by character. One verse. Five qualities. Patience, truthfulness, obedience, being charitable, and praying for forgiveness before dawn (sahar). Each attribute sits on its own line in a bold kufic script, painted in deep mulberry watercolour. Terracotta blooms, lilac leaves and sage stems grow between the words. A different kind of checklist to measure the day against. Not on what to do, but who to become.
