Soothwardens is a game about playing someone linked to another person by powerful magic and pursuing a great cause with the gifts the Link awards you. It is about larger-than-life fights, against monsters both strange and familiar, monsters who also maintain a Link unto themselves. The game is played with 1 Game Master and 2-3 players. Soothwardens is a Luckless GameThere are no dice, no cards, and no random outcomes. This game requires you to use two separate intangible-resource trackers, Heart and Stamina, a handful of special traits, and the aspects you gather in the signature weapon of Wardens, the Dirge. Heart is used to fight and defeat monsters called Breakers. Stamina is used to investigate them before you fight them so that you have a chance of defeating them quickly. You do not want your fight to last too long in Soothwardens... How it's PlayedCharacters begin their life as Soothwardens. They can be newly graduated, or veterans of the practice. They set off throughout the world to voyage to each of the Omirim monoliths to create a new Dirge for future Wardens, and help communities affected by the Breakers along the way. A typical campaign of Soothwardens will loosely follow a consistent loop of game phases, described below. Venture forth to a location Investigate the presence of Breakers in the area Hunt down the Breakers Defeat them, or escape to fight another day Update the locals, and move on to the next location Throughout every aspect of play, Wardens will also deal with the Link to their partner, explore the world, and help communities with more mundane tasks.
