The evening the trees turned an unbelievable colour By the entrance to Oulton Broads, on the St Michael's Church side, there are stables - horses and the quiet rhythm of stable lif e, a wonderful thing to walk past and appreciate. It is a place of gentle, everyday beauty. But one evening, a sunset arrived that transformed it entirely. The trees by the stables turned a colour so extraordinary, so warm and vivid and unexpected, that it stopped everything. That is the moment this painting holds. Sunset at the Stables is a painting about the way ordinary places can suddenly become extraordinary - when the light is right, when the sky does something remarkable, and you happen to be there to see it.
