Trimbach Riesling is a dry Alsatian Riesling from Maison Trimbach, bottled at 12.5% ABV in a 750ml format. What separates this entry-level bottling from its peers is a remarkable detail: roughly 25% of the blend originates from Grand Cru vineyards, lending a depth and mineral structure uncommon at this tier. The 2021 vintage earned a Gold medal at the Sakura Wine Awards in Japan. Quick Facts: ABV: 12.5% | Origin: Alsace, France | Varietal: 100% Riesling | Producer: Maison Trimbach Production & Heritage Maison Trimbach is one of Alsace's most storied family wine estates, with roots stretching back to 1626 — nearly four centuries of continuous winemaking by a single family. The Riesling is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete vats, and crucially, undergoes no malolactic fermentation, preserving every ounce of the grape's natural, razor-sharp acidity. The inclusion of 25% Grand Cru fruit in the blend is a deliberate choice that distinguishes Trimbach's classic Riesling from comparable regional bottlings, adding layers of complexity that punch well above the wine's weight class. Tasting Notes Aroma: White flowers and citrus blossom greet the nose first, followed by ripe pear and a subtle thread of candied orange. A mineral, almost flinty undertone emerges as the wine breathes. Taste: The entry is crisp and precise, with green apple and lemon zest arriving immediately. At mid-palate, white peach and a faint whisper of passion fruit add richness, while a firm wall of slate minerality and bright acidity keep everything taut and focused. There is a creamy depth that balances the wine's angular, racy character. Finish: Medium in length, clean and minerally, with lingering notes of preserved lemon and wet stone. The acidity carries through to the very end, leaving a mouthwatering impression that invites the next sip. How to Drink Trimbach Riesling Serve chilled to around 46–50°F (8–10°C) in a standard white wine glass to allow the aromatics to develop. This is a wine built for the table, but it drinks beautifully on its own as an aperitif. Riesling Spritz: Its bright acidity and citrus notes make it a natural base for a white wine spritz with soda and a lemon twist. Hugo Cocktail: The floral aromatics complement elderflower liqueur and fresh mint in this Alpine classic. Kir Alsacien: A splash of crème de cassis against this wine's minerality creates a refined regional aperitif. Best For Pairing with seafood dinners — especially shellfish, sushi, or ceviche Introducing someone to high-quality dry Alsatian Riesling Gifting a wine enthusiast who appreciates Old World elegance Warm-weather aperitif drinking on a summer evening Frequently Asked Questions What does Trimbach Riesling taste like? It is a dry, medium-bodied white wine dominated by crisp green apple, lemon zest, and white peach, with a pronounced slate minerality and bright, mouthwatering acidity throughout. How does Trimbach Riesling compare to Hugel Riesling? Both are benchmark Alsatian Rieslings from historic merchant houses, but Trimbach tends toward a leaner, more angular and mineral-driven style, while Hugel often shows slightly more fruit generosity and roundness. Trimbach's inclusion of 25% Grand Cru fruit in its classic bottling also gives it an uncommon structural depth at this level. Is Trimbach Riesling good for beginners? Yes — its clean, fruit-forward aromatics and precise acidity make it an excellent introduction to dry Riesling, especially for those who associate Riesling with sweetness and want to discover the grape's drier, more mineral side. Where is Trimbach Riesling made? It is produced by Maison Trimbach in Ribeauvillé, in the Alsace wine region of northeastern France, where the family has been making wine since 1626. What foods pair well with Trimbach Riesling? Classic Alsatian choucroute garnie (sauerkraut with pork and sausages) is a regional match; the acidity cuts through the richness. Grilled white fish, such as sole or halibut, complements the wine's mineral character. Fresh oysters echo the saline, flinty quality on the finish. Thai green curry works surprisingly well, as the wine's acidity and subtle fruit richness balance the heat and lemongrass. Aged Comté cheese pairs naturally, with its nutty depth playing off the wine's citrus notes. What sizes does Trimbach Riesling come in? The standard release is a 750ml bottle, and Trimbach also produces a 375ml half-bottle format for select vintages. Is Trimbach Riesling worth the price? It positions as a mid-range Alsatian Riesling, but the inclusion of Grand Cru fruit in the blend and nearly four centuries of family winemaking expertise give it a quality-to-value ratio that outperforms many wines at a similar or higher price point. Why Trimbach Riesling? The quiet advantage of this wine is that 25% Grand Cru vineyard fruit goes into a bottle most producers would fill entirely with regional-level grapes. Pierre Trimbach, named one of the world's Top Ten White Winemakers by Decanter Magazine in 2006, oversaw the house style that prizes precision and purity above all else. The deliberate omission of malolactic fermentation preserves a crystalline acidity that gives the wine its hallmark tension — a quality that makes Trimbach Riesling one of the most food-friendly whites in its category. For drinkers seeking an Alsatian Riesling that balances accessibility with genuine terroir expression, this bottling consistently delivers.
