5 Rabbit 6-Pack is a Latin-inspired Golden Ale from 5 Rabbit Cervecería, brewed at approximately 5% ABV and packaged in a six-pack of 12 oz servings. This all-malt ale earned a Silver Medal at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival in the Golden or Blonde Ale category, cementing its reputation as one of the more distinctive craft ales to emerge from the Chicago-area brewing scene. Quick Facts: ABV: ~5% | Origin: Bedford Park, Illinois, USA | Style: Golden Ale | Brewery: 5 Rabbit Cervecería Production & Heritage 5 Rabbit Cervecería holds the distinction of being the first Latin-themed craft brewery in the United States, founded in Bedford Park, a suburb southwest of Chicago. The flagship Golden Ale was built on a backbone of high-quality pilsner and Vienna malts sourced from German specialty suppliers, fermented as an ale rather than a lager to introduce a subtle fruitiness not found in typical pale Mexican-style beers. The hop bill pairs traditional Czech Saaz — prized for its delicate, spicy character — with New Zealand Motueka, a newer varietal that contributes bright, tropical fruit aromatics. This unusual Old World–New World hop combination gave the beer a signature profile that set it apart from both mainstream Latin lagers and standard American blondes. Tasting Notes Aroma: A lively hop bouquet opens with the grassy, herbal spice of Czech Saaz before giving way to the tropical, lime-zest fruitiness contributed by Motueka. Underneath sits a clean malt sweetness reminiscent of fresh bread and light honey. Taste: The entry is smooth and malt-forward, with caramel and honeyed notes from the Vienna malt base arriving first. Mid-palate, a brisk bitterness builds — more assertive than a typical blonde ale — balanced by a round, biscuity body. The ale fermentation adds a gentle fruity ester that ties the malt and hop layers together. Finish: Clean and moderately dry, with lingering herbal hop bitterness and a faint caramel sweetness. The finish is crisp enough to invite another sip without turning thin or watery. How to Drink 5 Rabbit Serve chilled at around 40–45°F in a pint glass or tulip to let the hop aromatics open up. This golden ale is refreshing straight from the can or bottle but rewards a proper pour that builds a thin white head. It works well in a Michelada, where its malt depth and hop bite hold up against tomato juice, lime, and hot sauce. Try it in a Shandy mixed with fresh lemonade, as the Motueka's citrus notes amplify the pairing. It also stands in nicely for a Beer-a-Rita (beer margarita), where its clean bitterness replaces the soda-like sweetness of mass-market lagers. Best For Summer cookouts and backyard grilling sessions Introducing craft beer drinkers to Latin-inspired brewing Pairing with tacos, ceviche, or other vibrant Latin cuisines Collectors seeking remaining stock from a landmark American craft brewery Frequently Asked Questions What does 5 Rabbit taste like? 5 Rabbit Golden Ale delivers caramel and honey malt sweetness balanced by a clean, firm hop bitterness, with subtle tropical fruit and herbal spice from its Czech Saaz and New Zealand Motueka hop blend. How does 5 Rabbit compare to Bohemia? Both are pale, malt-driven beers with Latin heritage, but 5 Rabbit is ale-fermented — adding fruity esters absent in Bohemia's clean lager profile — and carries noticeably more hop bitterness and aromatic complexity from its dual-origin hop bill. Is 5 Rabbit good for beginners? Yes — at roughly 5% ABV with a smooth malt backbone and approachable bitterness, 5 Rabbit Golden Ale is an excellent entry point for drinkers transitioning from mainstream lagers to craft beer. Where is 5 Rabbit made? 5 Rabbit Golden Ale was brewed by 5 Rabbit Cervecería in Bedford Park, Illinois, a suburb just southwest of Chicago, making it the first Latin-themed craft brewery established in the United States. What foods pair well with 5 Rabbit? Street tacos al pastor, where the beer's bitterness cuts through the pork's sweetness; shrimp ceviche, complemented by the Motueka's citrus character; grilled corn with chili-lime butter for a smoky-spicy contrast; fish and chips, where the malt body matches the batter; and queso fundido, as the carbonation and hop bite cleanse the palate between rich, cheesy bites. What sizes does 5 Rabbit come in? The standard retail format is a 6-pack of 12 oz cans or bottles. Is 5 Rabbit worth the price? 5 Rabbit positions as a craft-tier golden ale, priced above mainstream imports but in line with other independent American craft six-packs — its GABF Silver Medal pedigree and distinctive hop combination justify its place in that tier. Why 5 Rabbit? 5 Rabbit Golden Ale represents a genuinely unique chapter in American craft brewing: a GABF Silver Medal–winning ale from the nation's first Latin-themed craft brewery, built on German-specification malts and an unconventional hop pairing that bridges European tradition with Southern Hemisphere innovation. The combination of Czech Saaz and New Zealand Motueka is uncommon in the golden ale category and gives this beer a complexity that outpaces most competitors at the same ABV. With 5 Rabbit Cervecería no longer in operation, remaining stock carries added significance for collectors and fans of the brewery's pioneering role in Latin-American craft beer culture. Few golden ales in this price range can claim the same blend of heritage, critical recognition, and distinctive recipe design.
